Dr. Pooni is a General and Colorectal Surgeon. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 2011. He then completed General Surgery residency and Colorectal Surgery fellowship at the University of Toronto, qualifying for Royal College certification in both specialties in 2016 and 2020 respectively. During fellowship he also completed additional research training with a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology through the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation.
His professional interests include minimally invasive surgery, colorectal oncology, surgical education and colorectal health outcomes research.
Procedures performed by Dr. Pooni as a matter of expertise include minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer and diverticular disease. Colonoscopy and colorectal cancer screening. Laparoscopic segmental resection, proctocolectomy and J-Pouch for inflammatory bowel disease. Altemeier / Delorme procedures and laparoscopic abdominal repairs for rectal prolapse. Fistulotomy, LIFT, advancement flap, and anorectal reconstruction for advanced perianal disease. Minimally invasive general surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy & hernia repair).
