I am writing to announce that Mark Fam is stepping down as Vice President (VP), Clinical Programs at Michael ¾ÅÓÎÌåÓý (MGH) to take on the new and exciting role of President at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener on February 6, 2023. Mark will remain in his role at MGH until February 3, 2023.

Mark joined MGH as VP, Clinical Programs four years ago. His inspiring determination and passion for finding creative and innovative solutions to increasingly complex healthcare challenges, made a tremendous and long-lasting impact on our community, both inside and outside of our walls � especially as we navigated the COVID-19 health crisis.

Mark was instrumental in not only growing MGH’s acute care services to meet the evolving needs of patients and families, his commitment to collaboration with East Toronto Health Partners contributed to a significant growth in much-needed health and social services in our community. Here are a few impressive highlights from Mark’s time at MGH:

• Increased total hospital beds to meet our community needs before and during the pandemic, launching an 80-bed integrated , and expanding on-site critical care, long-term vent and acute care by 42 beds
   
• Led clinical services to Exemplary Accreditation in 2021, recognized as a Leading Practice organization for significant virtual care and remote monitoring implemented across all programs
   
• Introduced several leading practices within the organization to improve patient care, including the Patient Access and Transitions Hub and 24/7 patient flow models, core clinical models of care, and cross-program partnerships
   
• Established new services for MGH to better serve the community, including Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) for cardiology patients, Home Peritoneal Dialysis services to enhance renal care in the community, coordinating a city-wide withdrawal management nursing model and launching a new Women’s Withdrawal Management Service for East Toronto, launching Transitional Aged Youth programming, and expanding Emergency Department services to better serve children and youth, patients with mental health needs, and patients requiring resuscitation
   
• Co-led Master Planning for future hospital services to ensure MGH meets the needs of our community going forward

We are incredibly grateful for Mark’s leadership, drive, determination and systems thinking that he demonstrated over the past four years. While we are sad to see him leave MGH, we know his experience, expertise and knowledge as a visionary healthcare leader will make a profound impact in his new position at St. Mary’s General Hospital.
